Brow Surgery
A brow surgery- also known as eyebrow lift- is a cosmetic procedure that can be done on its own or in combination with other procedures. It is usually incorporated in a facelift procedure whereby the patient undergoes facial reconstruction to minimize wrinkles.
Small incisions are made on the top skin layer of the patient's forehead. The plastic surgeon is able to pull the fat and tissues from these incisions to smoothen the creases around the eyes and brow area.
After completion of the brow surgery, sutures will be made to close the small wounds. The patient's forehead will be wrapped loosely with bandage to keep the area free from dirt and to minimize bruising and swelling.
The final stage of a brow surgery is a brief stay at the doctor's clinic for recovery from anesthesia and for a briefing of post-surgical care. This stage is essential for a patient's recovery since coming home also means taking care of oneself or a family member who had the surgery.
Tips for faster recovery from a Brow Surgery
Once at home, a patient is expected to follow the recommendations and prescription of the plastic surgeon. Specific procedures and medications are discussed in the doctor's clinic prior to coming home. The patient should follow these instructions to ensure faster healing and recovery.
- Check your body temperature - High temperature or fever indicates infection. Prescribed antibiotics should be taken to prevent fever and infection. If the fever persists, you should go to your doctor for immediate treatment.
- Regular changing of bandage - This ensures that the wound and the brow area are clean at all times. This prevents dirt and infection from developing during the healing process.
- Avoid sun exposure - Heat from the sun and pollutants outdoors will aggravate the swelling and slow down the recovery.
- Get enough rest and sleep, and make sure to elevate your head when lying down.
- Hydrate your body by drinking lots of fluids/water.
- Do non-strenuous exercises for the first few weeks of recovery to promote blood circulation.
- Avoid hot baths and hot showers to prevent excessive swelling.
- You may use cold compress to relieve the pain, swelling and bruising.
- Make sure to follow the prescription of your plastic surgeon. Stick to the schedule when taking pain relievers and/or antibiotics to ensure faster recovery.
A fast recovery from a brow surgery can only be achieved if a patient follows the instructions of his/her surgeon diligently. Recovery after surgery usually takes a few weeks before you can go back to your normal daily routine.
Any issues and concerns should be consulted to your doctor. And make sure you visit your doctor as advised.
