Acne Treatment

Acne treatments can help control and get rid of acne for good. But it takes time and the right medications to use to be able to achieve fairer and clear complexion.

A customized acne treatment is believed to be the best cure possible as it can address the specific needs of the individual. The difference in acne lesions and the condition of the skin should be taken into account prior the acne treatment.

Acne lesions can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory. Each type is unique and may require specific treatments and approaches. In some occasions, some medicines and treatments do not work on certain acne types.

Types of Acne and Recommended Treatments

  • Mild acne - The usual type of acne present in this condition is comedonal acne. You can use benzoyl peroxide creams as topical treatment. You can buy these medications over-the-counter.
For severe cases, topical creams such as retinoids and adapalene can help clear the skin.
  • Mild inflammatory acne - A skin regimen of topical medications can help clear the skin. Topical antibiotics can also be used to reduce the inflammation on the skin. Clindamycin and erythromycin are just two of the many antibiotic creams available in the market.
  • Moderate acne - A skin regimen of oral antibiotics with topical benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoids can be used. Some acne patients may choose hormonal therapy combined with antibiotics.
  • Severe acne - Oral medication is best for this type of acne. Isotretinoin is the best solution to this condition especially for severe acne that has been treated with oral antibiotics.
Hormonal treatment may also be used in combination with isotretinoin or as a stand-alone treatment.

Recovery from Acne Treatment

Acne treatments vary as well as their recovery periods. However during the days of recovery, it is important to take care of the face indoors and outdoors.

If you have been using topical creams to treat acne, it is important to provide covering on your face while outdoors to avoid dirt and other acne-causing contaminants in the air.

Always remember to sick to your skin regimen to see if it is working. Some people need to change their skin regimen to achieve more positive outcomes.

Hi Shamiko,

Make sure you wash your face two times before putting on any product. Also it is possible the skin around your jawline is different then the skin on the rest of your face. So if you are using a normal skin product on the rest of your face you might want to try another product i.e. for oily skin to used on your jawline.

I have acne on my cheeks, right between the eyes, and sometimes behind my ears. I have taken amoxacilin for treatment, and i wash my face once or twice daily, but i have become immune to my medication and i usually have to aviod taking it for a montha dn a half in order to make sure it stays effective. Is there a way to clear up my acne quickly in about a month??

If I were to be allergic to wheat I would have been breaking out from it long before the age of 18 right? Also, will fruit cause me to break out? (strawberries and bananas mainly)
