The Zoom whitening process

Zoom whitening is a process that involves a special gel that is applied on the teeth and light waves to help the whitening process.

While the patient is seated, the dentist will prepare his/her teeth by separating the lips from the teeth with the use of a dental refractor. The special gel is applied on the exteriors of the patient's teeth. This gel can cause irritation to the gums, that's why dentists are very careful when applying it.

The dentist uses the light to allow the whitening to take effect. Light exposure usually lasts about an hour. The chemical reaction of the gel that is exposed to the light causes the whitening.

The zoom whitening effect takes months so you can enjoy whiter and brighter teeth. However, for smokers and coffee lovers, the effect may take a few months.

There are usually no side-effects to zoom whitening. Some patients may experience tooth sensitivity on rare occasions.

Recovery from zoom whitening

The whitening itself does not have any recovery time. The only concern that most patients have is the discomfort of having their mouths opened for hours. It usually takes a few hours for the discomfort to subside.

It is advisable to exercise the mouth and jaw to relieve the spasm-like pain after the treatment.
